Radford Selects VCU Assistant Mike Jones As Head Coach

Veteran assistant coach Mike Jones, who helped direct VCU to the 2011 Final Four, has been named the new head coach at Radford.

Jones has spent nearly two decades in college coaching, including stints at Georgia, Richmond and Furman.

He will replace previous coach Brad Greenberg, who led the program to the 2009 NCAA Tournament but resigned this spring after irregularities were discovered in the program and he was suspended for the final four games of the 2010-11 season.

Jones will inherit a once-solid program that plunged to 5-24 this past year. He is a graduate of Howard University, where he played for the Bison for four years. He has worked with such successful coaches as John Beilein, Dennis Felton and the past two seasons with Shaka Smart, the rising young star who was in charge of VCU's first-ever Final Four.

"You will be missed, my friend!" Smart declared in announcing Jones' departure on Twitter.
